Kathleen Faye Hurley Wands, age 87, of East New Market, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. Born in Cambridge in 1937 to the late Bill and Kate Elzey, Faye was known for her warmth, kindness, and deep commitment to her family and community.
Faye was a dedicated school bus driver for Dorchester County, serving North Dorchester High School, North Dorchester Middle School, and Warwick before retiring. She was also an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she participated in many church groups and ministries, sharing her time and faith with the community.
In 1970, Faye married Grayson Hurley, and together they raised two daughters, Kalee and Tonie. In addition to her adopted son Antwan Lake. Faye and Grayson’s home was a place of love, laughter, and care, surrounded by their extended family and friends. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grayson, as well as her in-laws Grayson and Sarah Hurley, BJ and Terry Jo Hurley, Carol Hurley, Patsy and Chuck Stansbury, and her three dearest friends, Pat, Rosie, and Nancy.
Faye is survived by her daughters, Kalee Hurley (Bet Mendoza) and Tonie Hurley, her son Antwan Lake, and her cherished grandchildren, Katie Ellis (Zach Ellis), Sherree Mendoza, and Rider Mendoza. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Laila and a godmother to Traci Insley. Faye is also survived by her nephew Brian and Patrick Hurley, niece Sharon Stansbury, as well as a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 10am to 11am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Faye's memory to Kitty Kat Kottage 3711 Elliott Drive, East New Market, MD 21631 or Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, two organizations that were close to her heart.
Faye’s legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
