Kenneth W. "Buck" Gabrielsen, 66 of Bishops Head, passed away at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Wednesday February 2, 2011. He was born in Baltimore on June 18, 1944, and was a son of the late Jerome and Kathryn Kling Gabrielsen.
He attended schools in Glen Burnie and graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 20, 1965 until he was Honorably Discharged on April 26, 1971. On October 15, 1982 he was married to the former Rachel "Pudgie" Hayden. Mr. Gabrielsen worked as a lineman first for Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. for six years, and later worked for I.B.E.W. # 70 for 23 years until his health forced him to retire in 1991. He enjoyed hunting ducks and geese as well as crabbing and spending time outdoors and making his famous cheese duck sub. Mr. Gabrielsen had been in failing health for over 20 years when he passed away on Wednesday morning.
Survivors include his wife Rachel Gabrielsen of Bishops Head, one son David W. Gabrielsen and his wife Gina Gabrielsen of Pasadena, one step son Robert F. Patterson, Jr. and his wife Sandi Patterson of Bishops Head, one step daughter Karen Lynn Oberender and her husband Mark Oberender of Bishops Head, two grand children Hunter Gabrielsen and Tara Gabrielsen of Pasadena, seven step grandchildren Crystal Patterson, Robert F. Patterson III, Matthew Brode and Chris Brode, Meghan Newman, Jennifer Oberender and Zach Oberender all of Bishops Head, one great granddaughter Zoey Brode all of Cambridge, two brothers Jeff Gabrielsen and his wife Karen Gabrielsen of Eldorado and Darryl Gabrielsen and his wife Kay Gabrielsen of Dundalk and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM on Friday in the Chapel of the Maryland Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Barbara Mills officiating. Pallbearers will be David W. Gabrielsen, Robert F. Patterson, Jr., Robert F. Patterson III, Zachary Oberender, Ronnie Oberender and John Michalski.
