Kenneth W. "Trey" Smith III

February 15, 1967 — January 12, 2016

Kenneth W. “Trey” Smith III, 48, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born on February 15, 1967 at the Naval Academy Hospital in Annapolis. He was a son of Phyllis Marzucco Smith and the late Kenneth W. Smith, Jr.

Trey graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School. When he was a teenager, his grandfather owned a tugboat called the Lady D, and later Trey passed his Captain test at a very young age and worked several years on tugs until he wanted to open up his own marine construction company. He later went back to tug boating with Bouchard Transportation working on the Captain Fred for the last year and a half, and his route was Yorktown, Virginia to Philadelphia and most recently moved to the Gulf of Mexico. He was very fond of his daughter Mandy. When he was younger he liked sailing, golfing and was a big Jimmy Buffett fan. He also enjoyed trains.  In November of 2013, he married Celia Marquez Rangel.

He survived by his wife Celia Marquel Rangel of Cambridge, a daughter Mandy Paige Smith of East New Market, his mother Phyllis Smith of East New Market, his grandfather Kenneth W. Smith, Sr. of Harwood, a step daughter Michelle Marquez of Cambridge and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Brian Wheatley officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
