Kenneth W. Smith, Jr

Kenneth W. Smith, Jr., 69, of East New Market fought a courageous battle and passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, August 26, 2013. He was born in Washington, DC on April 24, 1944 and was a son of Kenneth W. Smith, Sr. and the late Emma Jean Lee Smith.

He was raised in Galesville, MD and graduated from Southern High School in Harwood, MD class of 1963. He served in U.S. Navy during Vietnam for two years. On May 2, 1964, he married the former Phyllis Marzucco. He was the former owner/operator of Taylors Island Marina. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, boating, wood carving, gardening and was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. One of his biggest joys was his granddaughter, Miranda Paige. He was a past member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company. Ken was a member of Clearview at Horns Point.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis J. Smith of East New Market, a son Trey Smith of Secretary, a granddaughter Miranda Paige Smith of East New Market, his father Kenneth W. Smith, Sr. of Harwood, MD, a sister Penny Kidd and husband Charles of Harwood,MD a brother Jeff Smith and wife Cathy of Galesville, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in East New Market with Rev.'s Karen Handy and George Simmons will be officiating. Interment will be private at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 95, East New Market, MD 21631
