L. Virginia Thomas, 96 of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Saturday, April 30, 2011. She was born in the Neck District on June 10, 1914, and was a daughter of the late George H. and Florence Orem Wilson.
She attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1932. In February of 1932 she was married to Carlton H. Thomas. Mr. Thomas passed away in March of 1952. She was a member on Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge. She enjoyed reading, sewing and cooking. Mrs. Thomas had been a resident at Mallard Bay for the past year when she passed away on Saturday afternoon.
Survivors include three daughters Carolyn T. Parks of Cambridge, Patricia Fortson on Orange Park, FL and Gretchen T. Seymour of Trappe, two sons George A. Thomas and his wife JoAnna Thomas of Easton and Richard L. Thomas and his wife Fran Thomas of Baltimore. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Carlton H. Thomas, Jr. and eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Maryland Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. William Davis officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
