Lake R. Slacum Jr., 72, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on June 2, 1937 and was a son of the late Lake R. Slacum, Sr. and Elena Wood Slacum.
Mr. Slacum graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, VA. After high school he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. When Mr. Slacum returned from serving his country, he went to Potomac State College and later to Louisiana State University where he received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963. On June 28, 1963 he married the former Julie Pritchett. Mr. Slacum worked and retired on January 1, 1995 from Delmarva Power. He loved building model boats. He especially enjoyed building model skipjacks.
He is survived by his wife Julie Pritchett Slacum of Cambridge, a son Lake R. Slacum III and wife Cindy of Wilmington, NC and twin grandsons Lake Frederick Slacum and Payne Pritchett Slacum. Besides his parents, Mr. Slacum is preceded in death by a daughter Amy Slacum Hussey and a sister Delores Carter.
Honorary pallbearers were Thomas H. Adams, Jr., Steven A. Adams, W. Ladd Johnson, Herbert "Buddy" Tall, Richard "Dick' Morse and Danny Brannock.
A private funeral service was held on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Old Trinity Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church, c/o Richard Hargis, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.
