L. Ann (Messick) Slacum

L. Ann Slacum, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was born in Cambridge on February 12, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Perry Rache Messick and Lillian Woodward Messick.

Mrs. Slacum attended North Dorchester High School. On October 27, 1951 she married James E. Slacum, Sr. in a double ring ceremony along with her sister Shirley and James’s best friend Crawford Abbott. She worked for Verizon and retired with 35 years of service. Mrs. Slacum enjoyed playing bingo, working in the garden, and was always looking to help others. Mrs. Slacum was a past president of the Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband James E. Slacum, Sr., a son David Slacum and wife Sharon and their daughter Catherine Villari and husband Michael and their children Emilia and Bradley, a grandson Eddie Slacum and his children Christopher Krouch and Sierra Slacum, a granddaughter Becky Slacum, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a son James Edward Slacum, Jr., two sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Slacum, Michael Villari, Chris Crouch, Larry Messick, Gerard Johnson and David Wooten.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1 pm at Open Bible Church with Rev.’s Steve Bloodsworth, David Wooten, Jr. and Larry Messick officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Open Bible Church, 1619 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
