Larry V. Simmons, 63, of East New Market passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on November 4, 1948 and was a son of Melva Thomas Simmons and the late Victor Simmons.
He graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1966. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. On July 27, 1991 he married the former Wendy Hurley. He worked for John W. Tieder for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, the outdoors and arrowhead collecting. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife Wendy H. Simmons of East New Market, a daughter Jenny Lynn Todd of East New Market, his mother Melva Thomas Simmons of Hoopers Island, a sister Cindy Smith (Marlin) of Annapolis, sisters in law and brothers in law Willey Hurley (Joan) of Preston, Faye Dodson (Herbert) of Cambridge, Gilbert Hurley (Pat) of East New Market, two nephews U.S. Navy Lt. Robby Smith and U.S. Marine Corps Cpt. Paul Smith and several aunts, uncles and godchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Dean, Larry Gootee, Carley Thomas, Sam Silvestri, Kevin Sullivan, Percy Ransome, Herbie Dodson, Gilbert Hurley and Mike Willey. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends and co-workers at John W. Tieder.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Riverside Wesleyan Church, c/o Ruth Tolley, 2540 Hoopers Island Road, Fishing Creek, MD 21634 or to the Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
