Laura L. (Townsend) Willey

Laura L. Willey, 79, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at UMSMC at Easton. She was born in Millsboro, DE and was a daughter of the late Elisha W. Townsend.

She graduated from school in Dagsboro, DE. Mrs. Willey attended and graduated from Temple College and also attended Delaware University. On July 30, 1976, she married L. Duane Willey, who passed away on June 28, 2006. She worked with the Maryland State Police and later she started Play to Learn Child Care Center for over 40 years. After retirement she worked in the Goose Creek deli. Mrs. Willey enjoyed watching NASCAR with her grandsons, she was an avid Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Football Team fan, she loved the Christmas season, and word searches. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church.

She is survived by her daughter Duana Embrey and husband Christopher of Cambridge, two sons Jay Rodgers and wife Janet of Georgia, and Ernie Lowe and wife Kay of Selbyville, DE, two grandsons Norman Duane Michael Wingate, and Caleb Embrey, and a granddaughter Lena Embrey, numerous others she considered as her daughters and grandchildren Kelly Oberender and Dawn Reed, grandchildren Ryan Oberender, Kahle Reed and Myles Reed. She is also survived by a sister Judy Bailey of Maryland, a brother Bill Darkow of Delaware and her beloved dogs Carly and Dallas and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Oberender, Buddy Oberender, Dale Oberender, Daniel Embrey, Robert Klein, Norman Wingate. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Embrey and Sean O’ Conner, Myles Reed and Michael Wingate.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
