Lawrence M. "Sparky" Robinson

Lawrence M. "Sparky" Robinson, 91 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. He was born at Crocheron on October 5, 1919, and was a son of the late Ira Edgar and Lula Bramble Robinson.

Sparky attended school in Crapo. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. On May 14, 1944 he married the former Grace Batey. In his earlier years he worked on the water. Later he was a salesman for several vending companies. Sparky was a member of the Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. Sparky enjoyed playing cards and had also been an avid fisherman. He had been in failing health for the past 18 months and had been a patient at DGH on Monday when he passed away on Wednesday evening.

He is survived by his wife Grace Bernice Robinson of Cambridge, a niece Joan Nichols of Cambridge and several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very special friends Bubbie and Linda Powley of Golden Hill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers Harold Robinson, Kenneth Robinson, Carlton Robinson and Johnson P. Robinson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Stephen A. Trice officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
