Leigh B. Edger, 78, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Green Point on October 18, 1933 and was a son of the late James W. and Sara DeMott Edger.
He attended schools in Easton and graduated from Easton High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was married to the former Emma Paul on December 21, 1956. She passed away on September 9, 2007. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a cook at the Eastern Shore State Hospital, as a carpenter for several businesses, worked for the City of Cambridge and also worked on the water. After retiring and when he was able he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play Little League. While he was at Chesapeake Woods, he enjoyed playing bingo and watching the Orioles.
He is survived by a daughter April Edger and her companion Mark Robinson of Cambridge, a son Shawn Eric Edger and wife Mirian of Princess Anne, eight grandchildren Dustin Edger, Allen Edger, Jason Edger, Bryan Edger, Corbin Edger, Cameron Edger, Wyatt Robinson and Ethan Edger, two step granddaughters Brittany Christopher and Taylor Christopher. He is also survived by a sister Pat Todd of Cambridge, two nieces Cindy Coleman and Reese Dawson, a nephew Dennis Mitchell and several cousins. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Edger is preceded in death by a niece Cindy Baker and an uncle Warren DeMott.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2pm at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
