Levin W. "Buddy" Niblett, Sr, 88, of Cambridge went home to be with the Lord on Christmas day December 25, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cambridge on March 23, 1935 and was the son of the late John Henry Niblett and Lillie Mae Bell Niblett.
He attended school in Cambridge completing the 9th grade and then later got his GED. He met Shirley Jean Simmons when they were both 13 years old and on December 12, 1951, they married. Shirley passed away on October 30, 2016 shortly before their 65th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Niblett worked at Rob Roy from 1951 until they closed. He then worked for Commander Garment, Robbins and Robbins, Dispatcher at Cambridge Police Dept and was a bus driver with DDUST – Delmarva Community Services before retiring. He and his wife started a craft business, Shirley’s Novelties, in 1991. They enjoyed meeting new people at the different craft fairs they attended. Levin made wooden toys while Shirley made various sewn items. He was a member of the National Guard in the late 1950’s and honorably discharged in 1961. He coached a boy’s baseball team for many years when his son, Pete, started playing. He was a member of the Salvation Army with the duties of Record Sargeant. He was also a member of REACT (President), Cambridge Coin Club, and loved to go fishing, hunting and playing bingo and poker.
He is survived by his children, Levin W. Niblett, Jr. (Pete) and wife Sandy, L. Susan Phillips and husband Jim, and Brenda J. Jarrett and husband Glen; grandchildren, Jamie Niblett and wife Stella, Shelly Niehaus and husband Billy, Ben Saulsbury and Linda Daniel and husband Steve; great grandchildren, Mason Niblett, Bethany Niehaus, Joey Niehaus, Cierra Thompson and fiancé Dan Reed, Jacob Dayton and wife Caitlyn, Amber Dayton, Payton Daniel, Gage Daniel and Opal Daniel; great-great grandchildren Penelope Reed, Camden Reed and Paxton Dayton; sister June Elzey; sister in law Joyce Newcomb and husband Joey and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by an infant son, James Franklin Niblett; a grandson, Neal Patrick Niblett; brothers John Henry and Marvin Niblett and sisters Dorothy (Kitty) Travers, Frances Spear, Rosalie (Topsy) Wingate and six infant siblings.
Pallbearers will be Edgar Wingate, Jr., Glen Jarrett, Jacob Dayton, Ricky Wingate, Steve Daniel and Dan Reed.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 11am at the Salvation Army with Capt. Wendy Parsons and Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6PM to 8PM at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 91, Cambridge, MD 21613.
