Lillian S. Swaim, 80, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Bullock, North Carolina on June 11, 1931 and was a daughter of the late John and Jane Saunders.
She attended and graduated high school and Wingate College in Bullock, North Carolina. On January 1, 1955 she married Alvin D. Swaim who passed away on June 13, 1981. Mrs. Swaim later graduated from Chesapeake College and continued to Salisbury University. She worked for 20 years for the Dorchester County School System as a teacher's aide and homebridger. After she retired, she worked as a mental health advocate for youth and adults and then went to work at Mallard Bay Care Center as an Admissions Director. Mrs. Swaim also worked part-time at Cambridge House Bed and Breakfast.
She is survived by three daughters Sharon Hoge of Cambridge, Tracey Abbott and husband Jeff of St. Michaels and Wendy Frankel of Cambridge, three grandchildren Whitney Frankel, Kelsey Abbott and Noah Abbott, a sister Nell Street and husband David of Glen Allen, VA and three nephews.
While attending Wingate College, Mrs. Swaim was an avid basketball player. Her hobbies also included playing bridge, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Steve Trice officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Library, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
