Lindy D. Robbins, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was the son of the late Allie and John Robbins of Toddville.
At the age of five, his family moved to Cambridge. He attended local schools and served four years in the U.S. Army. Mr. Robbins worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth for 30 years. After his retirement, he managed the local bowling alley for 14 years. Mr. Robbins was always involved in sports and coached girl's softball teams for 20 years and didn't stop playing softball himself on local teams until he was 61. He was very involved in bowling and had a lineup of trophies. Mr. Robbins organized a youth bowling league that he oversaw for 25 years. He bowled for approximately 50 years and was a member of the American Bowlers Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #91 for 46 years.
He married Jeannette Williams in 1950. They had three daughters Julia Bennett, Linda Dyer (Jerry) and Sandi Saunders. After Jeannette's passing, he married the former Jari Salazar, who has a daughter Danielle. He has 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sister Bonnie Rimpo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Robbins is preceded in death by two sisters Edna Robbins and Gladys Robbins, two brothers Gene Robbins and John Robbins and a grandson Chad Travers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post #91 with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
