Lorraine B. Short

Lorraine Burton Shorter Short, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. She was born on October 29, 1928 in Cambridge and was a daughter of the late John Lee Burton and Mable Moore Burton.

She was a lifelong resident of Dorchester County, devoting herself to raising her four boys. She entered the work force after they grew up and retired after 14 years from Airpax, she was an avid lover of baseball, especially Little League. She was devoted to her faith, family and friends. She loved reading the Bible and several daily devotionals, taking photographs of family members, gospel and country music, travel with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by three sons; Daniel Lee Shorter (wife Gail), Luther Burton Shorter (wife Sharon), Ricky Arnez Shorter (fiancAC.e Trish Lednum), grandchildren Lee (wife Bobbi) Shorter, Jason (wife Kim) Shorter, Jenson (fiancAC.e Courtney Pearson) Shorter, Shelly Shorter Cheesman, Michelle (husband Nick) Shorter Googin, Ricky "R.J." (wife Crystal) Shorter Jr., great-grandchildren Sabre Shorter, Logan Shorter, Jason "J.J." (fiancAC.e Amber) Shorter, Eric Shorter, Alex Shorter, Makenna Shorter, Mariah Shorter, Alison Pleasants, Ryan Cheesman, Kellan Googin, Kylee Googin, Riley Shorter and great-great granddaughter Savannah Bee Shorter.

Mrs. Short is also survived by current husband George Short (and his daughter Lori and family), a sister Frances Phillips, three nephews - Terry, Rusty and Ronnie Phillips and their families, a cousin Reese Hurley and a lifelong friend June Elzey.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by first husband Howard Shorter Jr., son Howard Shorter III, a brother Luther Lee Burton, nephew Jay Phillips and brother-in-law Russell Eugene Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Jason Shorter, Sr., Jensen Shorter, Lee Shorter, RJ Shorter, Jason "JJ" Shorter, Jr., Nick Googin, Eric Shorter, Alex Shorter, Logan Shorter and Ryan Cheesman.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
