M. Hollie Smith, Jr.

M. Hollie Smith, Jr., 84 of East New Market passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on June 16, 1939 and was a son of the late M. Hollie Smith, Sr. and Lillie Harris Smith.

Hollie graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force with 5 years of service. On November 19, 1961 he married the former Elaine Borga. Hollie worked for Wise Oil and Fuel with 30 years of service. Hollie is a member of the Rescue Fire Company with 25 years of service where he was a past president and at one time was the Captain of the Ambulance, the American Legion Post 91, Cambridge Elks, Friendship Methodist Church where he was part of the Friendship Four and he also played the organ. He also volunteered at the VA Clinic in Cambridge.

The family would like to thank Brittany, Michelle, and Amanda from Coastal Hospice and Blake Mills for all the care they provided to Hollie. 

Hollie is survived is his wife Elaine Smith of East New Market, a nephew Kenneth Smith and wife Teresa of Cambridge, a niece Rose Marie Hollis and husband Sydney of North Carolina. Besides his parents, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth Smith and Spencer Smith.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 12pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. Shelley McCollister officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 to 12.
