M. Wayne Simmons

October 12, 1943 — June 23, 2009

M. Wayne Simmons, 65 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2009. He was born at Hoopers Island on October 12, 1943, and was a son of the late Leroy Stewart and Olive Mae Wallace Simmons.

Wayne attended schools at Hoopers Island and South Dorchester. On February 28, 1964 he was married to the former Marie Brannock. Some years ago Wayne had worked on the water. Wayne also worked at Nathan's Furniture Store in Cambridge and had also worked with his father operating a Pure Oil Station on Glasgow Street in Cambridge. He later worked at Western Publishing Co. For the past 37 years he has worked as an electrician at John W. Tieder in Cambridge. Wayne enjoyed fishing and crabbing and spending time with his family. Wayne passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning.

Survivors include his wife Marie B. Simmons of Salem, four daughters Denise Martin and her fiancAC.e Kyron Morton of Salem, Wendy M. Adkins and her husband Scott Adkins of Hurlock, Kimberly D. Bradshaw and her husband Carlton Bradshaw of Delmar, MD, Kelly Lynn Simmons and Andres Perez, of East New Market. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren Kassie Willey, Chela & Joshua Hernandez, Scott, Brock and Dylan Adkins, David, Mary Beth, Joy and Lydia Bradshaw and Giovanni Perez, six great grandchildren Hailie & Kayla Catlett , Evan & Miranda Ruark, Trent Hernandez and Carter Hernandez, and one brother Wally Simmons of Cambridge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Andy Perez, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday. Pallbearers will be Kyron Morton, Scott Adkins, Carlton Bradshaw, Andres Perez, John Ruark, David Hales and Jason Boehringer.
