Mabel W. Lewis

Mabel W. Lewis, 84 formerly of Cambridge, passed away at the Washington Adventist Hospital on Monday, February 15, 2010. She was born in Cambridge on August 1, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Moore Willey.

She attended schools in Cambridge. On October 12, 1940 she was married to Albert L. Lewis. Mr. Lewis passed away on August 3, 1995. Some years ago Mrs. Lewis had worked in several of the local shirt factories. For 17 years she had worked at the Glasgow Nursing Home and Cambridge House until she retired in 1987. Since November of 1995 she had made her home in East New Market. She had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge for two years and had been in failing health since November. Mrs. Lewis had been at the Heartland Healthcare Center in Adelphi since January 19th and was taken to Washington Adventist Hospital on Monday where she passed away.

Survivors include two daughters Darlene L. Robbins and her companion Ronald McGlaughlin of Robbins, and Connie Elzey of Denton, a daughter in law Barbara Moore of Madison, four grandchildren William D. Abbott, Jr., Winston D. Abbott and his wife Mary Abbott, Sally Ann Hubbard and Constance Paul, three great grandchildren Amanda Rhea, Branden Abbott and Troy Abbott, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Albert L. Lewis, Jr., two sisters Evelyn Dayton and Lillie Perdomo.

A funeral service will held in the Chapel of the Maryland Veterans Cemetery on Friday morning at 11:00 AM with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
