Margaret N. "Peggy" Ellis

December 25, 1924 — February 14, 2013

Margaret (Peggy) Neal Ellis December 25, 1924 - February 14, 2013 Christmas a" Valentine's Day

It is with sadness that the family of Margaret Ellis, announces the peaceful passing of our dear mother. Daughter of the late Mary Eleanor and John Mace Brohawn of Cambridge, Peggy liked to say she was born on Christmas, her mother's name was Mary, and her father was a carpenter.

Peggy returned to Cambridge in 2009, residing at Chesapeake Woods Center on Glenburn Avenue, back home and down the street from where she was born and raised. Peggy graduated from Cambridge High School (her father's firm built the school), where she was a member of the Honor Society and Drama Club.

Peggy was an artist at heart. She painted in oil and was a member of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association and Amateur Artists Association of America. She also had an artistic eye for garage sales, scooping up treasures from Michigan to Arkansas and places in between. When Peggy found things that she liked, she liked to have lots of them. Jewelry. Baskets. Dried flower arrangements. Shoes. Chocolates. Friends. Lots of them.

Peggy worked at C&P Telephone Co. (Cambridge), CKLW television/radio (Detroit/Windsor) and Hudson Personnel Agency (Birmingham). In retirement, Peggy took up tap dancing with the Happy Hoofers, putting on recitals to the delight of her grandchildren, who remember their NaNa attending their own recitals.

Peggy tried her hand at golf, tennis, and downhill skiing, but in the end, preferred her hand at bridge. She was the consummate hostess. Friends will remember Peggy's love of animals, mischievous banter, easy laughter, inner strength, creativity and love of her family.

Peggy is survived by three children: Carol (Tom) Mullen of Florida/Ontario, Deborah Dilts of Delaware, Mark (Carol) Masden of Cambridge; grandchildren Joye (James) Goblirsch, Kelsey (Leaf) Dilts-McGregor, Kristopher Dilts, Meghan and Katelyn Masden; great grandchildren Sam and Josh Goblirsch and Rowan Dilts-McGregor; stepchildren Holly Hudson-Hatt, Heather Hudson Ruffe and Bob, Barbara and Chris Ellis; nieces and nephews Roger Webster, Elaine Horseman, Austin Webster and Jeanne Webster.

The family will be conducting a small private service. Memorial donations may be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home P.A., where online condolences may be sent to www.thomasfuneralhomepa.com.
