Margaret P. Phillips, 91, of Fishing Creek passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Forest Hill, Maryland on October 6, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Jeanette Hawkins Devoe.
She was raised in the Darlington, Maryland area and graduated from Dublin High School, class of 1940. Mrs. Phillips also attended and graduated from Goldey Beacom College, class of 1945. For a short while, she was employed by several businesses, Bata Shoe Company, Aberdeen Proving Ground and Glenn L. Martin. She moved to Fishing Creek in 1946. Later, Mrs. Phillips worked in daycare and also was employed by the Dorchester County Board of Education where she worked in the cafeteria at St. Clair Elementary, South Dorchester High School and Cambridge South Dorchester High School. Mrs. Phillips was an avid reader. She was a member of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and Hosier United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons Harry C. Phillips of Fishing Creek and Reginald J. Phillips of Easton, four grandchildren Katie Kuneman, Mark Phillips, Joseph Phillips and Julia Corson, six great grandchildren, a sister Ann Fairall of Tennessee, several nieces and nephews and a special caregiver Bonnie Gore. Besides her parents, Mrs. Phillips is preceded in death by a brother William H. Devoe.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hosier United Methodist Church, c/o Priscilla McGlaughlin, P.O. Box 41, Fishing Creek, Maryland 21634.
