Irene Thomas, 71, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at her residence. She was born in Cambridge on May 14, 1940 and was a daughter of the late Odie and Iona Rhea Wilcox.
Irene graduated from the Cambridge High School in June of 1958 and married her husband, Richard Thomas on September 13, 1958. As her husband was a career Navy, Irene moved quite a bit, ranging from California, Alaska and Puerto Rico. Irene returned to Cambridge in 1982 while her husband was stationed aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey, and was employed as a purchasing agent at Chung King. When that plant closed, she was employed at the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning office and retired in 2005. Irene was a life time member of Spedden United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed playing the piano and directing the choir until her health precluded her continuing in that capacity. Irene was a two time survivor of breast cancer.
Irene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dick Thomas and their three children, two sons Richard E. Thomas and wife Melissa of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michael W. Thomas and wife Susan of Wesley Chapel, Florida and a daughter Teri L. Langrall and husband Doug of Cambridge, grandchildren Hope Thomas, Scott Thomas, Jade Miller and husband Bryan, Hayden Langrall, Kylie Langrall, Andrew Thomas and Patrick Anderson, great grandson Carter Miller and soon expected a great granddaughter Kayln Irene Miller. She is also survived by a sister Audrey Sammons and husband Jack of Cambridge.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Rob Neumier officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Eastern Shore Office, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803, the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O.
