Margaret O. “Peggy” Cheesman, 95, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born in Philadelphia on November 16, 1920 and was a daughter of the late William and Emma Owens Hilyard.

Mrs. Cheesman graduated from Germantown High School class of 1938. On November 23, 1938, she married Otto B. Cheesman, Jr., who passed away on June 9, 1989. Mrs. Cheesman had worked at Airpax. For many years, she was a member of The Good Sam Camping Club, spending many weekends with her husband and her camping friends. In 1957, she joined St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was very active in Sunday school, soup day and other areas of the church. She was also active in the past with Meals on Wheels and was a currently an active member with AARP. Mrs. Cheesman was a member of Dorchester General Auxiliary from 1974 to 2015.

She is survived by a son William E. Cheesman and wife Nancy of Parksley, VA, a granddaughter Terri Mills and husband Gary of Cambridge, a granddaughter in law Sylvia Cheesman of Cambridge, five  great grandchildren Michael “Scott” Cheesman, Jr., Katie Cheesman, Jonathon Mills, Kaitlyn Mills and Rob Bennett, three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Cheesman is preceded in death by a son Otto B. Cheesman III, a grandson Michael Cheesman and a sister Emma Robinson.

Pallbearers will be Jonathon Mills, Gary Mills, Scott Cheesman, Rob Bennett, Kyle Cropper and Paul Dendorfer.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 1 pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie Shively and Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 to 1 pm at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Youth Group at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Auxiliary at Dorchester General Hospital, P.O. Box 554, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
