Margaret “Peggy” Barnes Shenton, 91, died peacefully at Dixon House Assisted Living in Easton, MD on February 24, 2018. Peggy was born on July 1, 1926, in Taylors Island, MD, to the late Thomas Reed and Mary Brown Barnes.
She was a 1942 graduate of Cambridge High School in Cambridge, MD. In 1947 she married Milton M. Shenton, also of Taylors Island, where they lived and raised their family. They moved to Cambridge, MD in 1985.
She is survived by their three children, Barry Shenton, Darlene Spangler and husband, Reed, and Margaret Ann Shenton; four grandchildren, Thomas Spangler and wife, Megan, Stephanie Shenton, Jennifer Spangler Young and husband, Brian, and Jacquelyn Leonard; and two great-grandsons, Gabriel Spangler and Jackson Young. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Milton Shenton, and two brothers, T. Reed Barnes, Jr. and Franklin Barnes. A step-brother, Sonny Brown, survives her.
She was a member of Taylors Island Methodist Church, formerly Chaplain Memorial. Peggy worked at Western Publishing in Cambridge, MD from 1961 to 1978, but her true vocation was as a devoted mother and wife. The world is a better place because she loved in it.
Graveside services will be held at Old Trinity Churchyard in Church Creek on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Robert Kirkley officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Graveyard Fund or Grace Foundation of Taylors Island, both administered by Pat Neild at 5110 North Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.
