Marian D. Travers, 89, of Vienna passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born on Elliott Island on August 3, 1927 and was a daughter of the late Claude and Anna Gray Dayton.
She attended schools on Elliott Island. In her earlier years, Ms. Travers worked at Martinek Button Factory and at the crab house on the Island. Later, she was a house wife.
She is survived by five children James Travers, Sr. and wife Donna of Cambridge, Alfred Travers, Jr. and wife Pam of Vienna, Barbara Travers Parker of Vienna, Timothy Newcomb of Vienna and Marian Newcomb of Vienna, four grandchildren James Travers, Jr. and wife Shelly of East New Market, Angie Travers of North Carolina, Joshua Parker and wife Brittanie of Vienna, Christopher Travers and wife Brittani of Vienna, nine great grandchildren Tyler Travers and wife Summer of East New Market, Brandon Travers of East New Market, Amber Travers of East New Market, Jacob Parker of Vienna, Jase Parker of Vienna, Jackson Parker of Vienna, Levi Travers of Vienna, Jesse Kramer and Ethan Kramer both of North Carolina, two great great grandchildren Allison Travers and Savannah Travers both of East New Market, a sister Joan Insley and husband Dickie of Elliott Island and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Travers is preceded in death by former husband Alfred Travers, Sr., three sisters Lois Foxwell, Peggy Gray and Frieda Newcomb.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren Jimmy Travers, Jr., Josh Parker, Christopher Travers, Tyler Travers, Brandon Travers, and Jacob Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jase Parker and Jackson Parker.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s P.E. Cemetery in Vienna. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Vienna Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 291, Vienna, MD 21869 or to Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray funeral cost.
