Marie C. Newcomb, 88 of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Baltimore on June 4, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Joel and Clara Fischer Cooke.
Mrs. Newcomb attended schools in Baltimore City. She was a homemaker. On July 20, 1935 she married Donald M. Newcomb, Sr. He passed away on November 20, 1992. Some of her hobbies were sewing, gardening, reading and word find. Mrs. Newcomb was a member of the American Legion Post 91Ladies Auxiliary, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and Cambridge Lodge #1211 Loyal Order of the Moose.
She is survived by two daughters Shirley Pergher and husband Faustino of Florida and Carolyn Foxwell and John of Chestertown, a son Joel M. Newcomb and wife Joyce of Cambridge, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four great- great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Newcomb is preceded in death by a son Donald Newcomb, Jr. and four brothers Joel Cooke, John Cooke, Louis Barnes and Charles Barnes.
Pallbearers will be Robert Fischer, Warren Newcomb, John Newcomb, Paul Newcomb, Tommy Paul and Jack Smith.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
