Marjorie "Marie" Cannon, 88, formerly of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at The Pines in Easton. She was born in Purlear, NC on June 16, 1926 and was a daughter of the late James F. and Martha Yates Church.
She attended schools in Hebron. Her family relocated to Mardela Springs in 1930, where she grew up on the family farm. On October 1, 1946, she married John Irving Cannon, who passed away on July 2, 2000. Marie worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, I.F. Cannon & Sons. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for numerous years. Marie enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family, her once a year cousin's reunion, as well as volunteering in the kitchen at her church.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by her two sons Mark Irving Cannon of Salisbury and John Eric Cannon and wife Cindy of Cambridge, two grandsons Jonathan Cannon and Joshua Cannon, two sisters Wilma Mason of Salisbury, Candis Leota Jane Elliott of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers Earl J. Church and James L. Church and three sisters Mae O. Fleischman, Grace C. Owens and Gladys Faye Phippin.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Cannon, Joshua Cannon, Clyde Church, Kevin Turner, George Owens and Levi Ruark. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Mason, Terry Church and Kenneth Church.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Everett Isaacs officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
