Marjorie Mae Harper, 86 of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Saturday, September 19, 2009. She was born on February 7, 1923, and was a daughter of the late Hamilton and Eva McCollister Manning.
She attended schools in Dorchester Co. On January 26, 1946 she was married to Herbert Linwood Harper, Jr. Mr. Harper passed away on March 30, 1991. Mrs. Harper had worked at the Dorset Laundry in Cambridge and had also worked at Coldwater Seafood until she retired in 1985. She had attended the Chateau Community Church. Mrs. Harper enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, pets and helping others and was very devoted to her family.. She had been in failing health for the past two years and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge since January where she passed away on Saturday morning.
Survivors include a daughter Nellie Foxwell and her husband Chuck Foxwell of Cambridge, one son Gene Harper and his wife Barbara of Cambridge, two granddaughters Melissa Foxwell of Ocean City and Carrie Harper of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by four sisters Mildred Willey, Louise Hurley, Elsie Marshall and Norma Lee Moore, and two brothers Eugene Manning and Phillip Manning.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. David Stewart and the Rev. Pardee Bramble officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be R. Wayne Marshall, Billy Baumgartner, Chuck Foxwell, Phil Todd, Raymond Lowe and Mike Keene. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse B. Hurley, Jr. and Charles Turner. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
