Mark L. Burton

Mark L. Burton, 55 of Cambridge, passed away at his home with his family at his side on Sunday, July 11, 2010. He was born in Cambridge on June 16, 1955 and was a son of Dorothy Gooch Burton and the late R. Julian Burton.

Mark attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1973. He worked for Charles E. Brohawn Bros. Contractors, and in 1975 he went to work with his brother at Ditch Witch in Salisbury. In June of 1976 he went to work with his father at Tri County Trenching Co. After his father passed away in 1988 he continued operating the business. On March 18, 1977 he married his High School sweetheart Cheri Eckels. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing as well as boating. Mark had been in failing health since December when he passed away on Sunday morning.

Survivors include his wife Cheri L. Burton of Cambridge, one son Brandon P. Burton and his wife Krystal of Cambridge, and soon to be born grandson, one daughter Courtney L. Travers and her husband Harold W. Travers, Jr. of Cambridge, his mother Dorothy A. Burton of Cambridge, one sister Gail A. Robbins of Cambridge, three special nieces Melissa DeLuca, Allyson Eckels and Alyssa Eckels, mother in law and father in law Bonnie and Robert Foxwell of Easton. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother Robert J. Burton, Jr. and his father in law, and best friend Norman Eckels.

A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. Pallbearers will be Brandon P. Burton, Harold W. Travers, Jr., Jeff Meredith, Sr., Jeff Neal, Carson Windsor, Chris Collison, Sr., Danny Adshead and Jeff Hurley, Sr. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coastal Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
