Martha Collier Cousins 74, of the Neck District Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Sunday October 2, 2011 at her home. She was born on October 6, 1936 in Ellicott City, Maryland and was the daughter of the late William I. and Francis D. Collier.

She was a graduate of the Hannah More Academy for girls in Reisterstown, Maryland. After high school she attended The Peabody Conservatory Institute. Following college she married the late Lemmert M. Cousins of Towson, Maryland, her husband of 52 years.

She is survived by son Lemmert M. Cousins II and wife Megan, daughter Camby Cousins and husband Joseph and daughter Kimberly Cousins and husband Jack and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Bruce D. Collier.

Mrs. Cousins worked for the United States Federal Government where she accepted a position in the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Office of the Director and retired in 1996.

Mrs. Cousins was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Patmos Lodge, Ellicott City. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she was past Regent of the Charles Caroll of Carrollton Chapter as well as past State Regent. Mrs. Cousins also belonged to various other organizations. She and her husband were members of Spedden United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday October 6, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, Maryland with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
