Martha G. Hurley

Martha G. Hurley, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 03, 2008 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born at Sharptown on February 27, 1920 and was a daughter of the late S. Clarence and Sadie Boston Glasgow.

Mrs. Hurley graduated from Mardela High School in 1937. On October 2, 1937 she married Austin Junius Hurley. He passed away on November 5, 2005. She worked at DuPont, Trailways in Cambridge, managed the Point Restaurant and was Activity Director at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center where she retired in July of 1980. Mrs. Hurley loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers, painting and was very active at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge where she was a member.

She is survived by a daughter Terry A. Malkus and husband Bill of Cambridge, a grandson William Brent Malkus of Austin, TX, a granddaughter Lynn Malkus-Lyons and husband Lee of Trappe, great granddaughter Lyndsey Hope Lyons and a great grandson William Brady Lyons, a brother S. Charles Glasgow and wife Lily of Sharptown, a sister in law Elizabeth Glasgow of Mardela and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband she is preceded in death by four brothers and a sister Marion C. Glasgow, William Shelton Glasgow, Royce Glasgow, Jim Causey and Violet Glasgow.

Pallbearers will be Mike Glasgow, Dean Tingle, Jack Seabrease, Ed Ayers, Lee Lyons and Rick Callahan.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Jerry Wade, Rev. Randall T. Blackmon and Rev. Joan P. Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Immanuel United Church of Christ Building Fund, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
