Mary Beth Adams, 77, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional with her daughter holding her hand. She was born in Cambridge on November 4, 1946 and was a daughter of the late Alois Coughlin Matthews and Franklin Matthews.

 

Ms. Adams was raised in Crapo and graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1964. She received her Bachelor's and Master Degrees from Salisbury State College. Ms. Adams started teaching third grade and later sixth grade. After the birth of her daughter, she became supervisor of Elementary Language Arts and the local accountability coordinator. Later she became supervisor of Language Arts and Foreign Language. Ms. Adams was a consultant to incoming teachers for many years after retirement. She was very active for many years at the South Dorchester Folk Museum, attended First Baptist Church when she was able, a supporter of the Kitty City Rescue, loved to travel, and she was a loyal friend and confidant to many.

 

She is survived by her daughter Alexis Adams and countless loved ones and friends. Besides her parents, Ms. Adams is preceded in death by her lifelong friend George Adams.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Coughlin, Jr., Richard Culver, Brad Ernst, Craig Ellis, and Harold Wongus.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Family will receive friends from 9 to 11. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Kitty City Rescue, P.O. Box 1259, Cambridge, MD or to the South Dorchester Folk Museum, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.
