Mary Katherine Bishop, a resident of Glen Burnie, Md., and formerly of Cambridge, Md., died July 20th, 2010 of natural causes.
She was born December 26th, 1928 at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va. to the late Reverend William Irvin Collins, Sr. and Audie Elizabeth Newcomb. She graduated from Church Hill High School. She was an avid sports fan who played volleyball in high school and followed professional tennis and baseball throughout her adult life. She worked for Airpax Electronics in Cambridge, Md. as an assembler and line supervisor for many years. Later, she became a full time homemaker who enjoyed decorating, gardening and flowers. Above all, she valued her family and friends, helping those she could and making everyone feel special. Her common sense and good nature will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, James M. Bishop, Sr.; two daughters, Phyllis Ball (Mickey) of Salisbury, Kathy Bishop (Raymond Meyer) of Kent Island; as well as three sons; James M. Bishop, Jr. of Cambridge, Md., William D. H. Bishop, and David A. Bishop (Ruth) of Linthicum Heights, Md.; and one sister, Barbara Beauchamp (Kenny) of Trappe, Md.A
Additionally, she is survived by eight grandchildren: Michele, Jay, Jenny, Jill, Ethan, Audie, Sara and Matt; and five great-grandchildren: Mary, Aiden, Scarlett, Austin and Avery.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Anne Calloway (Jack) and her brother Bill Collins (Carolyn) formerly of Mardela Springs, Md. and her brother, Bruce Collins, formerly of Cambridge, Md.
A funeral service will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge on Friday, July 23rd, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. The viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mardela Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the charity of your choice in her name.
