Mary A. Bloodsworth, 90, of Cambridge passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was born in Cowley, England on July 9, 1924 to the late William E. and Gladys Barker Harbert.
Mrs. Bloodsworth grew up in England. During World War II, she had to quit school to work as an electric welder while the men fought in battle. She married the late Owen W. “Sparky” Bloodsworth, an American soldier, in England on December 2, 1945. Mr. Bloodsworth passed away on November 10, 1987. After becoming an American citizen and moving to the States with her husband, she worked at Airpax and later at the Dorchester Board of Education as a Teachers Aide. Mrs. Bloodsworth enjoyed reading, poetry, feeding the birds, being outdoors and especially loved to be around children. Mary never met a stranger.
Mary is survived by her son Andrew Bloodsworth and wife Kate of Taylors Island, a granddaughter Mackenzie Nalley of Taylors Island, a special niece Sandra Watson of North Wales, PA, a special friend Lula Mills and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by a son William "Billy" Bloodsworth, two sisters Joyce and Beryl and three brothers Fred, Harry and Billy.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Public Library, 303 Gay St., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.
