Mary Ann (Jones) Moore, 85, of Cambridge, passed away late Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge, MD. She was born in Cambridge on October 3, 1929 to the late Walter D. and Nettie W. Jones.
Mary Ann attended Cambridge area schools and was a proud graduating member of the Cambridge High School Class of 1948. On October 4, 1952 she married Major Leo E. Moore, (Retired) of Easton. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2006. She worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for a number of years, until her husband went into active military service in 1962. Together she and Leo were stationed in various states, including New Jersey, Georgia, Texas, and Vermont. During her time in Vermont, Mary Ann attended and graduated from Cosmetology school. Upon retirement from military service, Mary Ann and Leo returned to Cambridge where Mary Ann worked for the Dorchester Board of Education as an Instructional Assistant. They eventually moved to Annapolis where Mary Ann worked for the Department of Natural Resources until she retired from state service in 1992. Mary Ann and Leo returned to Cambridge in 1992. She continued to live in her treasured home on Edlon Park until April 2014, when she moved to Heartfields at Easton Assisted Living Facility.
Mary Ann loved to travel and she and Leo would often attend various Elks Conventions around the country. She was an avid bingo player and love dancing and word puzzles. She loved meeting with her friends at Denny’s and the Sandy Hill Diner and most importantly attending the CHS Class of 1948 luncheons.
She was a longtime member of Grace United Church in Cambridge and also attended Jubilee Christian Church.
She is survived by one sister, Shirley Smith of Wilmington, DE, two sisters-in law, Catherine (Kitty) Jones of Cambridge, and Marie Bennett Price of Bear, DE. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters: William (Greaser) Jones, Howard Jones, Hazel McWilliams, Mildred Spedden, and Betty Harmon.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with her nephew in law Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jubilee Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613.
