Melvin Brinsfield, 94 of Vienna passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Vienna on July 17, 1916 and was a son of the late Ollie H. and Susie Ann Sellers Brinsfield.
Mr. Brinsfield attended school in the Steele Neck area. He was a farmer all of his life. On December 23, 1939, he married the former Mildred Sands. She passed away on December 23, 1992. He enjoyed hunting. He was past member of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by three daughters Margaret S. Johnson and her husband Jake of Mardela, Dorothy A. Johnson of East New Market and Mary Martha Duvall and husband James of Cambridge, eight grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, one great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Brinsfield is preceded in death by two sisters Virginia Hurley and Belle Eberspacher and two brothers Howard O. Brinsfield and Randall Brinsfield.
Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Arty Johnson, Scott Johnson, Michael Graham, Joseph Gray and Christopher Buckner. Honorary pallbearers will be the great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow at the Slacum Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
