Melvin G. Hickman, Jr.

Melvin G. Hickman, Jr, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Autumn Lake at Chesapeake Woods. He was born on April 30, 1935 in Cambridge to the late Melvin G. Hickman, Sr. and Lee Blades Hickman. 

Mr. Hickman graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1953. He married the former Kathryn “Kitten” Kennedy. Mr. Hickman served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his time in the Army, he worked for Verizon with 35 1/2 years of service. Mr. Hickman was a member of the American Legion Post #91, S.A.L., St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Exchange Club, Cambridge Elks, Cambridge Historic Society, Skipjack Builders Guild and an honorary member of Rescue Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn “Kitten” Hickman of Cambridge, two sons Michael Hickman and wife Sheila of Linkwood and Gary Hickman and wife Tammy of Cambridge, two grandsons Tucker Hickman and wife Taylor and Tanner Hickman, a great grandson Lawson Hickman, a sister Carolyn Dennis of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Hickman is preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Hickman. 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with his son Pastor Gary Hickman and Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden, P.O. Box 776, Cambridge, MD 21613.
