Melvin Cator Robinson, 85, of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge, on June 21, 1930 and was a son of the late Joseph Cator Robinson and Estelle LeCompte Robinson.
On March 19, 1949, he married the former Charlotte Willey, who passed away on April 30, 1998. He attended schools in Cambridge and was a plumber all of his life. He became a master plumber in 1969 and along with his sons were in business until 1983. In 1983, he was appointed the plumber inspector for Dorchester County and held that position until 1995. He went back to work with his sons until 2008, and even at the age of 78, he enjoyed going to work every day.
He was a master craftsman and enjoyed working in his shop building furniture, usually in the winter, while in the summer loved cutting grass. He attended Bucktown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by four children Steve and wife Teresa, Debbie Todd and husband Vance, Bill and wife Charlotte, and Fran Stevens and husband David, nine grandchildren Stephanie Joseph, Christie Wingate, Jason Todd, Jake Todd, Jed Todd, Renee Murphy, Ryan Robinson, Scott Robinson and Dave Stevens, fifteen great grandchildren, and a sister Etta Cox and husband Donald, a niece and nephew.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Pastor Pam Bockart officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.
