Merilyn Q. Todd Cusick, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family and her caregivers. She was born and raised in Toddville on February 16, 1927 to the late Howard and Lula Hughes Todd.
She attended school in Toddville and graduated from Crapo High School class of 1944. She began her working career in retail sales, starting at McCrory’s Five & Dime, J.C. Penney Department Store and Leggett’s Department Store in the men’s department from it’s opening until it’s closing in 1989. She is fondly remembered by many as “Mrs. Leggett’s”.
As a young red head, she caught the eye and stole the heart of George Carroll Cusick of Golden Hill. They were married on August 29, 1947 and shared 51 years together. George passed away on December 12, 1998.
Merilyn was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Cambridge and was active in the ladies group until her health began to fail. She was a member of the local and national AARP and a volunteer at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, which kept her in touch with downtown Cambridge and her many customers.
She followed and supported her husband’s hobby of power boat racing from the early 1950’s through the early 1990’s. Through racing they made many wonderful and lifelong friends and were able to travel all over the country. She was known for her baking skills, especially her applesauce cakes and chocolate chip cookies, which she loved to share with family and friends.
The family wishes to extend special thank yous to Amedisy’s Home Health Care, Coastal Hospice and our personal caregivers for your loving care of Merilyn.
