Merrill Winston Gravenor, Sr., 78, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Salisbury on July 25, 1944 to the late Russell Winston Gravenor and Ada Mae Murphy Gravenor.
Merrill worked for many years as a Assistant Vice President of Union Trust Bank, and then as the Branch Officer of Baltimore Federal Bank in Salisbury. Merrill enjoyed anything to do with harness racing, and loved to read, especially about harness racing. He played softball, and coached kids baseball and soccer. Merrill enjoyed traveling just about anywhere; he just enjoyed getting in the car and going anywhere. He also loved his dogs. Merrill was a past president of the Exchange Club in Salisbury, and a former member of the Optimist Club of Salisbury.
Merrill is survived by his sons Michael R. Gravenor and his wife Susanne of Pasadena, and Merrill W. “M.J.” Gravenor, Jr. of Salisbury; grandchildren Kaja Gravenor, Noah Gravenor, and MaKayla Gravenor; his former wife Mary Tippie Stokes; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, Merrill is preceded in death by a special Aunt Merrill.
At this time, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wicomico County Humane Society, HSWC 5130 Citation Dr., Salisbury, MD 21804, to Mallard Bay Care Center, 520 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733 Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.
