Michael S. Cheesman, 48, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was born in Cambridge on September 21, 1963 and was the son of the late Otto B. Cheesman III and Donna Simmons Cheesman.
Mike graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School class of 1981. On June 21, 2002 he married the former Sylvia Gannon. He was currently a Lieutenant at the Dorchester County Detention Center. He enjoyed playing golf. Mike was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop # 209 and he also was camping chairman for the Choptank District. He was a member of Rescue Fire Company and Lloyd's Volunteer Fire Company, where he had served as president. Mike was also an EMT, past secretary of the Dorchester County Fireman Association, served on the Board of Directors for the Dorchester County Red Cross, a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a past member of the Cambridge Lodge #1272 BPOE Elks.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia Cheesman of Cambridge, a son Michael Scott Cheesman, Jr. and fiancee Regina Caffey of Whiteford, MD, a daughter Katie Cheesman of East New Market, a step son Robert Bennett and wife Jackie of Martinsburg, WV, a sister Terri Mills and husband Gary of Cambridge, brother in law William Gannon of Cambridge, his grandmother Margaret "Peggy" Cheesman of Cambridge, an uncle Stanley "Bunny" Simmons of Cambridge, three nephews Jonathon Mills, Keith and Carson Gannon and two nieces Kaitlyn Mills and Samantha Ruizo and two cousins Peggy and Betsy Shipley both of Hebron.
Pallbearers will be Chem Albites, Bobby Phillips, Steve Marshall, Ricky Travers, Jr., Bill Press and Steve Mills.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev.'s Dale Brown and Fred Bahr officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
