Mildred H. Phillips

Mildred H. Phillips, 96 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Monday October 12, 2009. She was born at Vienna on September 30, 1913, and was a daughter of the late Leslie and Ethel Hurley Hurley.

Mrs. Phillips graduated from Vienna High School and also attended and graduated from Salisbury Normal School in 1931. On April 18, 1941 she was married to Charles B. Phillips. Mr. Phillips passed away on September 11, 1989. After graduating from college she went to work as a telephone operator for the C&P Telephone Co. and worked in the business office until she retired. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge and had been active in the Barbara Pak Circle. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed reading. She had been in failing health for the past 2 A½ years, and had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center for the past two years where she passed away early Monday morning.

Survivors include three nieces Sandra P. Raymond and her husband James P. Raymond of Cambridge, Liz Elliott and her husband Keith Elliott of Cambridge and Eleanor Littleton of Delaware and three nephews Samuel F. Phillips, Jr. and his wife Patty of Arizona, George L. Phillips and his wife Judy Phillips of Cambridge and Terry L. Hummer and his wife Peggy Hummer of East New Market, one sister in law Betty Phillips of Dallas, Texas. She was grandmother to Jennifer K. Raymond of Cambridge and Jamie Raymond-Willey of Church Creek and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death three sisters Blanche Littleton, Mary Alice Phillips and Meta Hummer.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be members of her family.
