Mildred Spedden Seward, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Hudson on November 4, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Walter B. and Bertie Hubbard Spedden.
Mrs. Seward graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1939. On June 7, 1941 she married Harvey E. Seward. He passed away on February 16, 1998. She worked for Dorset Laundry as a secretary and a bookkeeper. Mrs. Seward also co-owned and operated Mar B Shop with her sister Mary Frances Warfield from 1965 until 1990. She was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and she was active in the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Seward was also a member of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company.
She is survived by a sister Mary Frances Warfield of Cambridge, two brothers Rev. Harold P. Spedden and wife Elaine of Wilmington, DE and Maurice F. Spedden and wife Arlene of Chester, MD, a sister in law Dorothy Hurley of Texas, a devoted friend Darcy McCollister, many nieces and nephews, two special caregivers Mickey Dail and Liva DeCeasare and her precious cat Goldie. Besides her parents, Mrs. Seward is preceded in death by a sister Dorothy S. Hall.
Pallbearers will be Bill Brooks, Richard Meekins, Larry Dail, Gary Spedden, Ron Spedden and Ron Warfield.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00. Memorial contributions can be made to Beckwith United Methodist Church, c/o Harold Miller, 5730 Morris Neck Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
