Nancy K. Gale

d. June 29, 2013

Nancy Anne Kennedy Gale, 80, passed away suddenly on June 29, 2013 from an automobile accident. She enjoyed a full and active life until the moment she met the Lord.

Born on May 14, 1933 in Salisbury, MD, Nancy was the daughter of Howard and Mary Kennedy of Chincoteague, VA. She called both Cambridge and Chincoteague home throughout her life. Nancy graduated from Cambridge High School in 1951 as the first class to complete 12 grades instead of 11. She worked as a bookkeeper, church secretary for St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and at the Dorchester Board of Education. She retired from there in 1997 after 16 years of service. She received many accolades for her efficient and tireless work ethic. She cherished the friends she made there.

She was a faithful Christian and a life-long member of St. Paul's. She served the Lord and volunteered her time in so many capacities including the Altar Guild, but she was always proudest of her instrumental involvement in founding the annual Flower Fair. Her creations were always a treat at Soup Day and she could lead a Mary Circle Meeting or Sunday Class like nobody's business. In her retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed giving her time, over 3000 hours, at the Dorchester General Hospital gift shop as part of her longstanding service in the Hospital Auxiliary. She served on its board in many capacities. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 2000.

She held her friends dear and was always quick with a visit, one of her famous cakes, or a touching note. Her sisters were her best friends of all. She was known as "Nannie" to more than her nieces and nephews she loved so much. While she served her community and spread the Word of the Lord with joy, her true vocation was mother and grandmother. Her two granddaughters were the sunshines of her life. She was as loving as she was beloved.

Nancy is survived by her daughter and sona"in-law, Ellen and Frank Williams and her treasured granddaughters, Grace Julia and Jillian Nancy of Warwick, MD; sister and brother-in-law Kitten and Melvin Hickman and their family Michael and Sheila Hickman and their children Tucker and Tanner and Gary and Tammy Hickman, all of Cambridge, sister and brother-in-law Karo and Weldon Arnett. Karo's daughter Teresa Spedden and granddaughter Hailey Workman of Seaford DE. Karo's son and daughter-in-law Steven and Canice Kinnel and their son Mason of Georgetown, DE. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Bill Gale, in June 1999 and by her mother in 1996 and father in 1997 and by her son, Kenny Howard in 1960.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge with her nephew Gary Hickman and Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Scott Daniels, 205 Maryland Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 554, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
