Nancy Joann Laird

Nancy J. Laird, 72, of Taylors Island passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. She was born on an Indian Reservation in Cheyenne, Wyoming on May 13, 1939.

Mrs. Laird attended school in Wyoming. She married the late Charles E. Laird in January, 1978, who passed away on December 7, 1998. She worked as a bartender/server at the Island Grille on Taylors Island. She was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge Post 1211, where she held several offices. Mrs. Laird enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

Mrs. Laird is survived by two daughters Chris Pete of Cambridge, and Cindy Cook and husband Kevin of Taylors Island, two sons Johnny Tieder of Taylors Island, and Forrest Laird of Cambridge. 8 grandchildren Katrina Schuyler and husband R.C. of Taylors Island, Angie Safrit and husband Timmy of Seaford, DE, Jessica Hitch and husband Shawn of Cambridge, Tiffany Kapela of Taylors Island, Mickey Laird, Jr. of Cambridge, Bryan Cook and wife Missy of Cambridge, Rachel Laird of Hurlock, Matthew and Zachary Laird of Cambridge, 16 great- grandchildren and a few special friends Margaret Ward of Taylors Island and Rose and David Tyler of Taylors Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one son Mickey Laird.

Pallbearers will be R. C. Schuyler, Timmy Safrit, Dave Tyler, Bryan Cook, Tony Kapela and Al Chalk.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. David Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Funeral Home P.A. 700 Locust St. Cambridge, MD 21613 to defer the funeral expenses.
