Nancy M. Hughes

Nancy M. Hughes, 75, of Secretary passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at The Pines in Easton. She was born in Easton on June 29, 1949 and was a daughter of the late Charles McGlaughlin and Dorothy Simmons Belanga.

She graduated from Easton High School class of 1967 where she played basketball. On July 20, 1979 she married Joseph “Jody” H. Hughes, Sr. Mrs. Hughes worked for H&R Block where she managed in Cambridge, Easton and Federalsburg. She loved her grandchildren, playing solitare, she was a soccer coach, team mom with Cambridge Little League. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Secretary Volunteer Fire Company where she served in any capacities. 

She is survived by her husband Joseph “Jody” Hughes, Sr. of Secretary, three children Dawn Stanley and husband David of Cambridge, Joseph “Jody” Hughes, Jr. and wife Jerri Lynn of Vienna, and Christina Shores and husband Timothy of Secretary, six grandchildren Austin Elzey, Toby Hughes, Lee Shores, Caleb Shores, JB Hughes and James Hughes and a nephew Ray Andrews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by a sister Bonnie Sue Andrews. 

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 2pm at Secretary Volunteer Fire Company, 115 Myrtle Street, Secretary, MD 21664. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Secretary Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 56, Secretary, MD 21664 or to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
