Nancy Amelia Todd was born on Hoopers Island April 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Charles S. and Martina F. Todd (née Flowers). Nancy passed away suddenly on November 4, 2024, at The University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. She graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1956, was president of her senior class and captain of their state champion volleyball team that went undefeated. She organized many gatherings for her classmates, be it reunions or second Saturdays at the Bay Country Bakery. Upon graduation she moved to Cambridge and began working for Harrington Insurance. Later she began her long career in banking, starting at Farmers and Merchants Bank, then onto Union Trust Bank, which changed hands several times over the years and ended up retiring from BB & T on Crusader Road.
She married John F. Peters in 1963 and was happily married for over 52 years until his death in 2016. Together they enjoyed traveling, bowling, family gatherings and attending the grandkids’ sporting events. Most of all she enjoyed just being with her family, working in her flower gardens, jigsaw puzzles and reading. She was proud of the fact she had many plants still in her yard that came from her grandparents’ and mother’s yards. She was a member of St Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cambridge and was in charge of the back pew with her besties Phyllis Flowers and Jean Morris.
She is survived by two sons John (Jay) E. Harrington, Jr (Nancy) and Gregory D. Peters (Lisa), grandchildren Todd Harrington (Heather), Joseph Harrington (Katie), Andrew Harrington (Cali), Hailee Peters, William “Will” Peters, great-grandchildren Wyatt, Daniel, Carter, Sarah, Amelia, Maeve and Nora. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte T. Spedden (Philip) along with her beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Lynn E. Harrington, brother James C. Todd and sister-in-law Ann Todd.
At her passing she was a resident of The Dixon House in Easton which we so very much appreciate the love and care they showed her during her brief stay there.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 12:30 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Tonya McClain officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home.
