Nelda Howard (Wingate) Roe

Nelda H. Roe, 83, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born in Sharptown on September 28, 1931 and was a daughter of the late Reginald and Alice Howard Wingate.

Mrs. Roe graduated from Cambridge High School. She married Alcade P. Roe, who passed away on January 13, 1965. She was an inspiration to all who have met her, and she was especially devoted to her family.

She is survived by two daughters Donna Gootee and husband Tom of Golden Hill and Dorothy “Dottie” Dukes and husband Tim of Laurel, Delaware, a son Dennis Roe and wife Jackie of Church Creek, six grandchildren Melande Roe ( Damion Tull) of Cambridge, Stephanie Pritchard (Luke Pritchard) of St. Michaels, Nick Gootee ( Hannah Griffin) of Cambridge, Michael Willey (Jen Snelling) of Cambridge, Jordan Stack ( Rebecca Stack) of Laurel, DE and Jessica Badger (Rory Badger) of Laurel, DE, nine great grandchildren Kelsey Jones, Karlie Jones, Jersey Kanarr, Hope Pritchard, Daniel Pritchard, Dylan Pritchard, Amarah Willey, Samuel Wright and Josie Stack, a sister Dorothy “Dot” Simms of East New Market and several nieces and nephews. Beside her parents and her husband, Mrs. Roe is preceded in death by two grandsons Thomas Christopher “Chris” Gootee and Jason Roe and three brothers Reginald “Buddy” Wingate, Walter Ray Wingate and Jack Wingate.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
