Nellie L. Smith, 90 of Cambridge, passed away at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. She was born in Cambridge on September 5, 1920, and was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Riggin Lowe.
She attended schools in Cambridge, and was first married to Emerson Willey. Mr. Willey passed away in February of 1986. She was later married to William S. Smith. Some years ago she had worked for Sheets Flower Shoppe and later for Benedict's in Cambridge. Mrs. Smith enjoyed working with flowers. She had been in failing health for the past three years and had been at the Caroline Nursing Home for the past 22 months where she passed away on Tuesday morning.
Survivors include her husband William S. Smith of Cambridge and two sons C. Vernon Lowe of Cambridge and Steve Willey, both of Cambridge, one daughter Patricia Van Vorst of Greenwood, DE, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven sons, one grandson Stewart Willey, three sisters and one brother.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Jayson Bleyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Bucktown Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Elmer Willey, Doug Cox, Keith Humphrey, Shawn Holland, Paul Willey and Derrick Richardson.
