Nellie M. Robinson, 76, of Vienna passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at
University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. She was born in Cambridge on December
10, 1945, and was a daughter of the late James Oliver Murphy and Marie Arbutus
Reed.
Mrs. Robinson was raised in the Preston area and graduated from Colonel Richardson
High School. On February 9, 1962, she married Johnson P. Robinson, Jr. who passed
away on May 10, 2004. In 1985 they moved to Buras, Louisiana
where she worked for the US Department of Agriculture in New Orleans. When
hurricane Katrina made landfall in their small town of Buras in 2005, she moved back to
Maryland. She later retired from the US Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC.
After retirement she worked part-time at Layton’s Chance Winery in the vineyard. She
enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, fishing, and camping. She was a member Dorchester
General Hospital Auxiliary until they closed in 2019.
She is survived by her children Tammy Jones and husband Scott, of Salem, JoAnn
Kuneman and companion Robert of Cambridge, Johnson P. Robinson III of Vienna and
Kirk Robinson of Louisiana, four grandchildren Evan Jones, Sierra Tippett, McKayla
Robinson, and Austin Robinson, a great grandson Brycen Crompton, a special friend
Janet Nicholas, her dog Little Man, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Besides her
parents and her husband, Mrs. Robinson is preceded in death by an infant son, brother
Robert Reed, a special Aunt Viola Dietert and her beloved dog Target.
Per Mrs. Robinson’s request there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road,
Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home,
P.A. in Cambridge.
