Nettie V. Bennett, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born on March 31, 1917 in East New Market and was a daughter of the late George Washington and Nettie Mae Sellers Venable. Ms. Bennett was raised and attended schools in East New Market. She was raised by her maternal grandparents. For a few years she lived near Bridgeville, but most of her life she lived in Cambridge. Ms. Bennett had worked for E. I. DuPont in Seaford from 1958 until she retired in 1979. Prior to working at DuPont, she had worked for several local shirt factories. She was a member of Dorchester Homemakers and AARP. She attended the MAC Center.A She is survived by a daughter Jewel Pitts and husband Laurence of Linkwood, four grandchildren Marti Smith, Jeffrey Pitts, Steven Patrick and Michael Pitts, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ms. Bennett is preceded in death by a daughter Juanita Patrick, four sisters Myrtle Wheatley, Frances Warner, Nannie Longfellow and Mildred Short, two brothers Clarence Venable and a twin Leonard Venable. Pallbearers will be members of the family.A A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. Paul Dorman officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
